INLINE DETONATION FLAME ARRESTER: ENDURANCE BURNING

Inline Detonation Flame Arrester approved to EN ISO 16852 for Endurance Burning

Deflagration = Explosion propagating at subsonic velocity

Detonation = Explosion propagating at supersonic velocity and characterized by a shock wave

Endurance Burning = Stabilized burning for unlimited time.

Inline detonation flame arrester prevents a flame propagation to the protected side in case of deflagration and detonation of explosive vapor-air or gas-air mixtures.

Inline Detonation Flame Arrester – Endurance Burning: Explanation

Deflagration = Explosion propagating at subsonic velocity

Detonation = Explosion propagating at supersonic velocity and characterized by a shock wave

Endurance Burning = Stabilized burning for unlimited time.

Inline detonation flame arresters are fitted with two pipe connections, one on each side of the flame arrester. Inline detonation flame arresters are designed to prevent the transmission of a detonation (explosion propagate at supersonic velocity).

Ignited explosive gas mixture will propagate through the pipe in direction to e.g. storage tank. With pipe length the speed of flame will increase. Up to a certain pipe length / pipe inside diameter ratio, the flame propagate changes from subsonic speed (Deflagration) to supersonic speed (Detonation).

Inline detonation flame arrester, approved for endurance burning for unlimited time prevents flame propagation to protected side after the gas flow has been switched off, even though the flame arrester is heated.
